At the Dec meeting an AREC Committee was set up with S/Leader Ted Fitton ZL2ARA, Deputy and Equipment Barney (Lawton Barnett) ZL2ALW, Technical Tony Humphries ZL2AMZ and Secretary Russ Crane ZL2AXN. There even was a suggestion that the Branch should construct (horror of horror!!) a SSB Type transmitter.

A Golden Kiwi Flutter!

1963:
It was noted in April ‘63 that the AREC gear was to be shifted to the new Police Station in Bell St. The May meeting took a big decision when it decided to by a Golden Kiwi ticket every two months; proceeds, if any, to constitute a building fund. Members were also informed that Br 48 had won the Low Power section of the 1963 Nat Field Day Contest.

In June it was decided that the afore-mentioned ticket be under the non-de-plume WATT SYND. The 1963 Junk Sale was to be held on 7 Sept at the St Peter’s Hall. The appeal went out at the August ‘63 meeting for volunteers to assist with the Deer Stalkers Building, the construction of which had recommenced. The September meeting decided to by ‘roofing iron for roof of new club rooms.’ No further details were recorded. The October AGM decided that the Branch Committee was to act as the AREC Committee.

1964:
June ‘64 saw approval being given for the purchase of a CR100 at 29 pounds. The 1964 Junk Sale was held in the Amdram Hall on 15 August and afternoon tea was to be laid on free of charge, donation requested!!

Treasurer.
At the October ‘64 AGM ‘Mac’ ZL2HM was elected to the new post of Treasurer.

Opening of new Club Rooms!

At the end of October 1964, AREC provided comms for the Wgi Motor-boat Club’s Speed Trials and the new Clubrooms were opened on the first Saturday of December 1964. The AREC equipment was transferred to the new rooms from the Police Station. The proposed Tenancy Agreement with the Deerstalkers was referred to our solicitor Mr Withers for his comment.

1965-67:
The 1965 Junk Sale date was set for August 21st, with the sale to start at 12-30pm. Afternoon tea: Members to have a ‘quiet word’ to their XYLs!!

At the September 1965 meeting, members elected Mr Alan Mitchell an Honorary Member of the Branch in recognition of his services as Auctioneer at the recent Junk Sales.

In January 1966 AREC provided comms for a series of horse trials and the March Meeting delegated Brian ZL2HM and Harold, ZL2AYS to get permission to erect a mast at the club rooms from the City Council. May saw the Branch man a display at the Hobbies Exhibition at the Wanganui Technical College. The 1966 Junk Sale to be held in the Railway Social Hall on 20 August. Bill ZL2AMV recommended to the Nov meeting that the 1967 Junk Sale be held in May so as to have the Sale out of the way before the Change to Decimal Currency. A decision was deferred until the December meeting where it was decided to bring the date forward to the May School holidays (May 20th at the Amdram eventually settled on).
